Direct mail clinic #6 – Tis the season

It’s time to talk about one of the most important appeals of the year! Whatever you call it – Holiday, Festive, Christmas or End of Year – the campaign you mail in December often makes up a big part of your annual income target.

Like all campaigns, your festive appeals need a solid case for support. The fact that it’s December is not enough to motivate your donor to give. They need to know why you are talking to them and why they should care.

Fortunately, in this clinic John Lepp shows you how to get your ask and your creative right – giving your festive appeal the best possible chance of success.

It starts with knowing how to make your appeal stand out on the doormat. At this time of year, your donor could be getting 30-50  mail appeals a day! So, what are you doing to make sure the donor opens yours?

Later, John introduces you to Phil the Bag. He’s a character, which might seem a little bit odd at first. But actually, characters like Phil are a great way to engage decision science – because things that stand out or are just plain weird often make a big impact on donors.

Finally, John walks you through a fantastic festive appeal step by step. From the envelope to the letter, reply form and more, John shows you some examples of what really works in end of year campaigns.

So go on, watch clinic #6 and start preparing your next holiday fundraising campaign. If you put John’s tips into practice, it’s sure to be a winner.
